Quadriceps Strain

Quadriceps Strain in Tennis: Symptoms, Causes, Treatment, Prevention and Return to Play

Quick Overview

A quadriceps strain is an overstretching or tearing of one or more muscles at the front of the thigh. In tennis, the rectus femoris is particularly important because it crosses both the hip and knee and is exposed to high forces during sprinting, lunging, braking, jumping, and rapid changes of direction.

For competitive and professional players, quadriceps strains can range from a mild muscle injury to a significant partial tear involving the muscle-tendon junction or central aponeurosis.
